Mornings on the Internet
Karl and Dorsey Gude of Michigan can remember simpler mornings. They sat together chatting as they ate breakfast. They read the newspaper, made fun of each other and competed only with the television.
That was so last century. These days, Mr. Gude wakes at 6:00 am to check his work email and his Facebook account. The two boys, Cole and Erik, start each morning with text messages, video games and Facebook.
The new routine quickly became a source of conflict in the family, with Ms. Gude complaining that technology was eating into family time. But ultimately (最终) even she gave in, opening her laptop and surfing on the Internet after breakfast.
“Things that I thought were upsetting and unacceptable a few years ago are now commonplace in my house,” she said. “ We are always online on four computers in four separate rooms whenever we wake up.”
This family is not alone. In May, Gabrielle Glaser of New Jersey, bought her 14yearold daughter, Moriah, an Apple laptop for her convenience. In the weeks after, Moriah missed the school bus three times and went from walking the family dog for 20 minutes each morning to only briefly letting the dog outside.
Moriah blames network functions, which draws her online as soon as she wakes. “Now that I have some friends that are up early and chatting,” she said. “I want to keep them company.”
This is typical in the US in the Internet age. People are increasingly waking up and rushing for access to their cellphones and laptops, sometimes even before swinging their legs to the floor and tending to more biologically urgent activities—like the bathroom.
Both adults and children have good reasons to wake up and immediately start clicking to keep track of the updates. Parents might need to go through email from colleagues in different time zones. Children check text messages and blogs or Facebook posts from friends with different bedtimes—and sometimes forget their chores in the process.
Is this really of benefit to us? It remains to be confirmed.

Artie hung up and told the driverless UNATS Robotics car to get him down to the railway station as fast as it could, angry with himself. He never imagined his exwife would call, especially after she had been away for so long a time.
His exwife. He hadn't thought of her in years. Well, months. Weeks, certainly. She'd been a brilliant computer scientist at the UNATS Robotics school at the University of Toronto. He could never forget the day they spent together. Their exchanging ideas, their heated discussion and their time filled with love. Of course, she was more talented and even got calls from the authorities. He was intentionally listening in but he overheard some, “The most advanced robot...”
After that, things became unusual. She was much busier and they seldom spoke to each other. May be that was the signs. Artie signed, looking at the busy motorway...
What happened next was miserable. She just left. Most importantly, she was not all by herself—their little daughter was in her belly. There was only a note, saying she would take good care of their baby. It was painful. Sometimes, he had crazy dream where he searched everywhere in vain for his little daughter. He woke up in the middle of the night, wondering if she would be as smart as her mom or if she got his blue eyes.
“We are arriving within 5 minutes.” the driverless UNATS Robotics car announced. Artie signed again. He longed to read her emails or listen in on her phone conversations. He could have done that when they were still together, but he never had. If he had, he would have found out what she was planning. He could have talked her out of it and maybe they were still together.
“And then what, Artie?” said the annoying voice in his head. “Maybe she was chasing her own dream—making the smartest robot in the world? ”
“Shut up!” he told the nagging voice.

Narration
Argument议论文
Exposition说明文
When | for so long a time, in the middle of the night |
Where | Railway station__
Who | Artie,__his__exwife,__their little daughter, the most advanced robot
What | Artie's exwife left a long time ago with the baby still in her belly. Artie didn't know the reason but he guessed maybe she was chasing her dream—making__the__smartest__robot__in__the__world.
Why did Artie's exwife leave?
There she was, standing by a teenage girl who had the same blue eyes as his. |
To achieve one's dream as well as serve the country is not easy. It needs devotion and understanding.
Artie hung up and told the driverless UNATS Robotics car to get him down to the railway station as fast as it could, angry with himself. He never imagined his exwife would call, especially after she had been away for so long a time.
In a flash, he was__at__the__front__gate of the railway station.
There__she__was,__standing by a__teenage__girl who had the__same__blue__eyes as his.
根据“There she was”可知,Artie 的exwife 已经到了。“a teenage girl who had the same blue eyes”可推测出这应该就是原文中的“女儿”。
可以借助原文中“the most advanced robot”来展开故事。
一个人形机器人出现了(the most advanced robot)

One possible version:
It turned out that any flower of success came from devotion and sacrifice. But when it worked, it was simply beautiful—like the reunion of the family, together with the smartest robot.
