If businesses are to get workers back into the office during the epidemic(疫情) period, finding ways to maintain social distancing will be key. An Israeli company thinks it can help, using smart sensors mounted on workplace ceilings(天花板).

PointGrab developed its technology before the epidemic to help workspace managers optimize(优化)how employees use office space. About the size of smoke alarm, the sensors can record the exact number and location of people in buildings including offices, hotels and restaurants.

One of the company's first customers was Deloitte, which installed the system at its flagship London office last year. PointGrab's sensors were connected to screens in the building to show the availability of desks and shared areas in real time. PointGrab CEO Doron Shachar says it was one of a range of innovations that helped Deloitte fit 30% more people into 3% less space.

Now PointGrab has adapted the technology so the sensors can also monitor social distancing by keeping track of how far apart people are, and whether they're traveling in one direction around a building.

Workspace managers can set up warnings for when two people are closer than two meters for more than 30 seconds, for example.

The sensors have been included in the “six feet office” concept created by real estate(房地产) services company Cushman and Wakefield to encourage employees to practice social distancing. They are currently being used in this way at a university in the Netherlands, and at an innovation hub in Belgium.

While the social distancing innovation is new, PointGrab has deployed ( 部署)more than 10,000 sensors for workspace optimization, including in the offices of Coca-Cola, Facebook and Dell.

Workers might not like the idea of being monitored, but PointGrab says no images or identifying features are recorded. Instead, each employee is represented as an anonymous(无名的)dot on a dashboard.

“The sensor does respect people's privacy,” Shachar says. “This is extremely important the workspace.”

Most people think that their local public library is just a place to borrow books. The truth is that modem public libraries are for more than just reading. 10 Most libraries today have CDs and DVDs for people to borrow, just like they borrow books. If people don’t want to pay for a subscription for a specific newspaper or magazine, libraries also usually have copies for people to read at their local branch or to borrow and take home to read.

While some people worry that paper books and magazines are going out of fashion because of digital technology, libraries are using tech to their advantage. Most public library systems now offer electronic versions of books for patrons (借阅者) to download. These downloads are good for a limited time, just like when someone borrows a physical book from the library. 11

For those who like a more audio experience, many libraries also offer audio books, and MP3 music downloads. These downloads are also usually for a limited time. 12 Libraries also increasingly offer movies for their patrons to borrow digitally.

13 Many libraries have clubs and meetings that cater to a wide variety of interests. There are knitting clubs, lectures on different topics, and of course, reading and writing clubs.

For those looking to better themselves, many public libraries offer resources. 14 There are classes for those who want to practice their English or become U. S. citizens. There are even workshops to help people create resumes, find jobs, and prepare for interviews.

One summer afternoon, when I was about eight years of age, I was looking at a beautiful rainbow that, bending from the sky, seemed to be losing itself in a thick wood about a quarter of a mile distant.

“Do you know, Gracie,” said my brother, who was just recovering from a severe illness, weak and tired, "that if you should go to the end of the rainbow, you would find there precious treasures?”

“Is it truly so?” I asked.

“Truly so,” answered my brother, with a smile but a very serious face.

Now, I was a simple-hearted child who believed everything that was told to me; so, without another word, I rushed out toward the wood. My brother called after me as loudly as he was able to, but I did not take any notice of him.

I cared nothing for the wet grass, -on and on I ran. I was so sure that I knew just where that rainbow ended. But when I reached the cedars (雪松林), the end of the rainbow was not there! Abruptly I saw it shining down among the trees a little farther off; so on and on I struggled, through the thick bushes, till I came within the sound of a stream. I reached the bank of the stream, and I could see it a little way off on the other side. I crossed the stream on a fallen tree, and still ran on, though my muscles were aching and my knees shaking.

Suddenly I met in my way a large porcupine (豪猪). I ran away from him as fast as my tired feet would carry me. In my fright and hurry I forgot to keep my eye on the rainbow, and when, at last, I remembered and looked for it, it was nowhere in sight!

When I saw that it was indeed gone, I burst into tears, for I had lost all my treasures, and had nothing but muddy feet and a wet and torn dress. So I set out for home.

Paragraph 1:

But I soon found that my troubles had only begun.

Paragraph 2:

At last I heard my own name called.
